Attending WWE RAW in London: a home run
WWE needed a big show to really get things moving on the road to WrestleMania last night in London – and oh boy oh boy did they deliver.
For whatever reason, a lot of fans from North America haven’t really enjoyed the European stretch that the promotion has been on in the last few weeks. Some have argued that it’s diluted the product as they know they’ll get strong crowd reactions regardless, whereas others are probably just upset that they have to watch WWE television at a time that isn’t suitable for them.
Either way, they went into WWE RAW in London on Monday hoping for big things. Spoiler: they got big things. John Cena and Cody Rhodes served as the highlight, and the opener, of the night, as they went back and forth (finally) in a promo that helped to further explain why John decided to turn his back on the fans.
Then, we had a match between Gunther and Jimmy Uso – which, in truth, resembled more of a murder scene than anything else as he battred Jimmy and bloodied him with Jey being left helpless and unable to really stop him.
WWE delivers in the capital
You also had a red hot main event, CM Punk singing the fans home to a Queen song after the dark match, New Day getting a big win, and as many fun crowd chants as you could ever hope for.
We were there live at the O2 Arena and while the cost of food and drink left a lot to be desired, there was still so much to enjoy about what the company brought to the table. WWE wanted everyone to have a good time but they also needed to push forward some storyline advancements, and they passed with flying colours.
Buckle up, because they’ve set the scene for a really blockbuster couple of weeks.
