Last night news broke that former interim UFC middleweight title contender Yoel Romero would rematch previous rival Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza at April’s UFC on ESPN 3.
The booking was a mild surprise. some fun with his current position in the middleweight title picture after it was announced he will rematch Romero at UFC on ESPN 3.Romero was supposed to fight rising knockout striker Paulo Costa at the event from Sunrise, Florida.
It was actually the third booking between the “Soldier of God” and Costa, who were supposedly set to meet at last November’s UFC 230 and this year’s UFC on ESPN+ 1. Injuries put a halt to those two rumored bouts, however, and now the third prospective match-up fell apart.
The UFC turned to a reliable veteran in Jacare instead. The fight isn’t much of a downgrade from Romero vs.
One thing it’s not certain to do, however, is propel Jacare to his long-desired middleweight title shot. The MMA legend has racked up a 9-3 record in the Octagon and has always fought the best. But a title shot has eluded him and continues to. Rather than get mad, Souza reacted to the news of his latest non-title fight with a hilarious video portraying his situation on his Instagram.
