UFC on Fuel TV 6 Results Recap: Thiago Silva wins with impressive submission

UFC on Fuel TV 6 from Macau marked the inaugural venture into China for the world’s biggest MMA promotion. The card brought some excellent fights for the crowd, including an emphatic finish in the main event. As previously reported, Cung Le came out early and nailed Rich Franklin with an absolutely vicious right hand, knocking Franklin out cold.

Thiago Silva got back into the win column against Stanislav Nedkov, weathering an early storm of strikes to come back and submit Nedkov in the third. With the win, Silva starts a new chapter of his career after stating that he wasted the last three years at American Top Team. Dong Hyun Kim put on a wrestling clinic to dominate Paulo Thiago throughout their whole bout. While Kim looked impressive, Thiago has dropped two in a row and lost a lot of momentum.

Takanori Gomi peppered Mac Danzig with some accurate striking, with Danzig returning his own. Gomi also scored a few takedowns. The fight was a back-and-forth battle, ultimately ending with a Gomi split decision. Jon Tuck defeated Zhang Tiequan after displaying an almost endless array of submission attempts on the ground. Kudos to Tiequan as well however, as he fended off all submission holds and got the better of Tuck in the striking department in the third. Rounding out the main card, Takeya Mizugaki showed some very effective ground-and-pound as he repeatedly took Jeff Hougland down and landed shots. Hougland was opened up with a large cut and never quite recovered.
