UFC Fight Night 61 went down tonight (February 22, 2015) from Ginasio Gigantinho in Porto Alegre, Brazil, and it could very well be deemed the night of the underdog, as the winner of all but one fight was the underdog. Overall, it was a very exciting night of fights featuring a few explosive finishes.

In the main event of the evening, former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir took on heavy-handed Brazilian Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva. Mir was riding a terrible four-fight losing streak coming into the bout, and was looking to prove he could still hang with the heavyweight elite. He did just that, starching “Bigfoot” in the first round, scoring a devastating knockout win and securing a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus in the process.

Also on the main card, “Smilin’” Sam Alvey took on Cezar Ferreira. Ferreira came out strong landing some solid kicks, but Alvey bounced back, and landed a devastating shot that put the Brazilian out cold. “Smilin’” was as happy as could be, and earned a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” Bonus for his handy work.

On the preliminary portion of tonight’s event Matt Dwyer scored an electrifying superman punch knockout over William Macario to earn a “Peformance of the Night” bonus as well. A fourth “Performance of the Night” bonus was given out to Marion Renau who scored a triangle choke victory over Jessica Andrade, also on the prelims.
