UFC 208 Preliminary Card Results: Belal Muhammad Earns Decision Win Over Randy Brown

It’s once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Saturday, February 11th, 2017) will come in the form of UFC 208. Headlining the card are Holly Holm and Germaine de Randamie, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the preliminary section of the card.

Belal Muhammad vs. Randy Brown in a welterweight closed the preliminary card on Fox Sports 1. In round 1, Brown was pressing forward and getting the better of the exchanges through the round. Muhammad continued to throw leg kicks. He threw more kicks than strikes. Brown answered with his own though. In round 2, Muhammad was poked in the eye early in the round but the referee never saw it. Muhammad clinched with him halfway through the round and went for a takedown but Brown was able to separate. Muhammad took him down with a minute to go and got his back. Muhammad landed some nasty strikes to end the round. In round 3, Muhammad shot in for a takedown early but it was stuffed some he clinched with Brown up against the fence. Muhammad took him down with over three minutes to go in the round and got his guard. Muhammad got his back but Brown scrambled and got back into top position to end the round. Muhammad got the decision win. 

Wilson Reis vs. Ulka Sasaki was next in a flyweight bout. In round 1, Reis was rejected with his first takedown attempt but was successful with his second takedown attempt. Reis was dropping down elbows from half guard for the rest of the round. In round 2, Reis took him down to begin the round and got his back. Sasaki was able to spin out and get up as Reis was searching for the submission. Sasaki gets in on a takedown but Reis sprawled out of it and got top control. Reis takes Sasaki’s back with two minutes left in the round. Reis went for a neck crank but Saski got out of it. Sasaki escapes with 20-seconds left, they exchange punches, Reis gets another takedown as the round ends. In round 3, Reis slowed down in this round and was eating some shots by Saski. Reis with a takedown, but Sasaki back up. Reis took him down and worked him over with strikes. After a crazy scramble, Sasaki has Reis’ back now and rained down strikes to end the round. Reis got the decision win.

Nik Lentz vs. Islam Makhachev was next in a lightweight bout. In round 1, Makhachev clinches with him and got a takedown to open the round. Makhachev worked him over with strikes from half guard. Lentz went for a guillotine but let it go quickly. Makhachev remained in half guard and kept the pressure up. Lentz scrambled to his feet with two minutes to go but Makhachev took him right down. Lentz ended the round with a guillotine choke. In round 2, Makhachev took him down early and worked him over with strikes from guard for the majority of the round. Lentz was working hard all round to keep Makhachev from being too productive. In round 3, Makhachev with a big body kick that stunned Lentz. Makhachev took him down after attempting to clinch with him. Makhachev got full mount then back mount and was landing some big strikes but couldn’t finish it. Makhachev wins the fight by decision.

Phillipe Nover vs. Rick Glenn in a featherweight bout opened the Fox Sports 1 preliminary bouts. In round 1: Nover starts things off with a beautiful combination. Another big high kick from Nover lands. Round ends with Glenn delivering some strikes from the back clinch position. Not a ton of action. In round 2: Nover shoots in on a double leg but it’s stuffed by Glenn. Moments later, Glenn went for a takedown but Nover fought it off. Nover was using knee strikes while in the clinch. They remained in the clinch to end the round. In round 3: Glenn came out a clinched with him right out of the gate. Glenn kept this position for the entire round and landed some good shots while pressing Nover on the fence. Glenn picked up the decision win.

Opening the UFC Fight Pass prelims was Ryan LaFlare vs. Roan Carneiro in a welterweight bout. In round 1, LaFlare came out aggressive and clinched with him briefly two minutes into the round. Carneiro continued to break the clinch exchanges. Carneiro shot for a takedown but LaFlare took him down halfway through the round. LaFlare worked him over with strikes from side control but Carneiro scrambled to his feet with 1:30 remaining. They exchanged to the finish. In round 2, LaFlare shot in for a big strike and Carneiro slipped. LaFlare fired away at him with strikes from guard on top. After taking some damage, Carneiro got back to his feet midway through the round and they went back to striking. LaFlare shot in for a double but Carneiro stuffed it. LaFlare dropped him with a straight shot with two minutes to go and rained down strikes from top position but Carneiro held on. Carneiro got to his feet to end the round. In round 3, Carneiro was back peddling and banged his head against a camera. LaFlare took advantage of this and took him down. Carnero got right back to his feet. Carneiro scored a takedown with about a minute to go in half guard and worked him over with strikes and this is how we finished the round. LaFlare picked up the decision win.
