UFC 195 Preliminary Results: Michael McDonald Chokes Out Masanori Kanehara

Dustin Poirier vs. Joseph Duffy

It was once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Saturday, January 2nd, 2016) will come from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada in the form of UFC 195. Headlining the card are Robbie Lawler and Carlos Condit, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the preliminary section of the card.

Masanori Kanehara vs. Michael McDonald closed the preliminary card on Fox Sports 1 in a bantamweight at UFC 195. Kanehara controlled the first round with his grappling and won the round. That all changed going into the second round when McDonald transitioned to the back of Kanehara and got the rear-naked choke for the win.

Alex Morono and Kyle Noke met in a welterweight bout at UFC 195. A back and forth striking exchange dominated the storyline in this fight. Both men had their moments, and it was what it was, but neither man had a standout moment in this fight. The fight was won by Alex Morono via split decision.

Nina Ansaroff and Justine Kish met in a women’s strawweight bout at UFC 195. This was a very entertaining bout as both women brought their A-game this fight. Kish controlled the stand up with her nasty strikes and leg kicks. Ansaroff earned some points with her grappling but was nothing that stood out in the fight. Kish won the fight by unanimous decision.

Drew Dober and Scott Holtzman opened the Fox Sports 1 preliminary bouts in a lightweight bout at UFC 195. If you want a hard hitting blood brawl, then this was your fight. Both men left it all in the octagon as the two were exchanging on the feet and in takedowns. The judges awarded the win to Dober via unanimous decision.

Joseph Duffy and Dustin Poirier bout finished off the UFC Fight Pass preliminary card in a lightweight bout at UFC 195. This was a very fun fight to watch and lived up to the hype as the main event of the Fight Pass prelims. The first round was a back and forth exchange that most thought was won by Duffy. Poirier owned the second round with his ground and pound. The third round saw Poirier work Duffy over with more ground and pound. Duffy got up to his feet but was quickly taken down by Poirier late in the round.  In the end, the judges gave the win to Poirier by unanimous decision.

Joe Soto and Michinori Tanaka met in a bantamweight bout at UFC 195. This was a decent fight that saw a mixture of all aspects of MMA fighting. The story of the fight was Soto’s grappling and several submission attempts while Tanaka was owning the stand-up. In the end, the judges gave Tanaka the win.

Opening the UFC Fight Pass prelims was Edgar Garcia vs. Sheldon Westcott in a welterweight bout at UFC 195. This one did not last long as Westcott scored a takedown, took the back and finished him with strikes. The fight should have been stopped way before it was. Not a good job by the referee at all.
