Tyson Fury Planning To Train With Conor McGregor Before MMA Switch

Unbeaten Lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury is deep in camp for his rematch against WBC title holder Deontay Wilder. The pair fought to a controversial draw in 2018 after Fury had come back to the brink due to his issues with mental health and substance abuse.

Despite his involvement at the top of the most lucrative division in boxing Fury continues to tease fans about a potential sports switch to mixed martial arts. The 31-year-old Englishman previously talked about a potential MMA fight, when he posted a video training with UFC middleweight Darren Till. He has now gone one step further by openly discussing his plans to train with ‘Notorious’ in Dublin. Speaking on RTE Radio, he said.

“I think Conor is an absolutely fantastic fighting man. He has offered to train me if I ever want to go into MMA. What better trainer could I have than the Notorious Conor McGregor?

“I’m looking forward to coming to train with Conor. We’re going to get it all planned in and I should be over in Dublin quite soon. I’ll definitely be coming over for a training session, that is for sure. I have been MMA training in the last week with Darren Till in Liverpool. I really enjoy the new challenge.”

“I don’t know where or when [I’ll make me MMA debut] because after I finish my boxing career, I fancy my hand at MMA as well.” (Transcribed by Boxing Scene)

The Irishman McGregor is not unfamiliar with transitioning between the two sports. He famously crossed over to face one of the greatest fighters ever, Floyd Mayweather in his boxing debut. Fury seems intent on making a similar play and UFC President Dana White was recently convinced the boxing champion was serious about a potential MMA move. Despite all this talk, fight fans shouldn’t expect him to change sports anytime soon. With Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua fights in front of him in boxing, he’d literally be giving up tens of millions to cross over into a new sport.
