TJ Dillashaw vs Jose Aldo? It’s an interesting thought……

UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw was part of the biggest upset of 2014 so far, when he dethroned the formerly dominant champion Renan Barao at UFC 173. Few gave “The Viper” a shot at beating Barao, yet his fifth round TKO would suggest the odds makers got it the wrong way round.

In defeating “Baron”, Dillashaw really solidified the heat between Team Alpha Male and Nova Uniao, and Chad Mendes made it even hotter in the lead up to his UFC 179 rematch with Jose Aldo. Although “Money” lost, Dillashaw still keeps the belt in Sacramento, CA, as “Scarface” is the last current Brazilian UFC champ.

Seemingly keen to get the 145-pound belt back to the Alpha Male camp, Dillashaw tells Alpha Male Radio, as transcribed by MMAFighting, that he’d love to fight Aldo:

“I wanna fight Aldo so bad, dude,” Dillashaw said. “I will beat Aldo. I wanna fight him. “

Whether or not this is a serious call out of the featherweight kingpin is unknown, but you’d think that Aldo is very busy right now with the line of healthy contenders aiming at him. Of those two contenders, Frankie Edgar and Cub Swanson stand out. They do battle at UFC Fight Night 57, and TJ makes his pick:

“I hope Cub Swanson wins,” Dillashaw said. “I like Frankie Edgar as a fighter, but Cub Swanson is a super cool dude and his stand-up gotten so much better. We have already seen Frankie Edgar fight Aldo, it wasn’t even close. He got beat by Aldo. I wanna watch Cub Swanson against Aldo. I think he should be the next one to fight him if he beats Edgar.”

“Swanson has gotten so much better. And Aldo is not that fighter anymore,” Dillashaw said. “Aldo is not that aggressive fighter anymore. He’s different. He’ll let you in the fight a little bit.”

Interesting call from the UFC bantamweight champion. Do you agree, and do you think TJ Dillashaw vs Jose Aldo is a realistic or exciting prospect?
