Sparks Fly: Abdul-Kareem Al-Selwady and Shem Rock Go Off After the Bell – UFC London Highlights
Abdul-Kareem Al-Selwady scored his first win inside the Octagon at UFC London, defeating highly touted prospect Shem Rock in enemy territory.
While Rock had his moments in the opening round, it was Al-Selwady who controlled much of the action, dominating the first two rounds and forcing the Liverpool native to spend much of the fight defending.
Bloodied up and in desperate need of a finish, Rock shot in for his first takedown attempt with less than a minute to go in the third. Unfortunately for him, Al-Selwady defended with ease and further peppered his opponent with ground strikes. As the time ticked down, Rock had little left to offer, but that didn’t stop him from getting a little chippy with Al-Selwady after the bell.
Perhaps if Rock had shown that level of aggressiveness during the fight, he might have had a chance. Instead, he surrendered a decisive decision loss to ‘The Pride of Palestine.’
Official Result: Abdul-Kareem Al-Selwady def. Shem Rock via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).
