Quote: BJ Penn Would Come Out Of Retirement For Hawaii Fight

Rising featherweight contender Max “Blessed” Holloway recently picked up his seventh consecutive win over Charles Oliveira at UFC Fight Night 74 last month. After his victory, Holloway urged the UFC to set up an event in his home of Hawaii, and expressed his interest to fight there.

Of course when we think of scrappy Hawaiians, Holloway isn’t the only fighter to come to mind, as we can’t forget about one of the greatest lightweights of all time in BJ “The Prodigy” Penn, who is currently retired.

However, “Blessed” believes that a UFC event in Hawaii could draw Penn back to the Octagon. Speaking on Periscope (Via Bloody Elbow) recently, Holloway said that a Hawaii show is on the agenda, and that fans could see “The Prodigy” back in action sometime soon:

“”I heard Dana White talking about UFC: Hawaii, said it was already on the agenda and just needed to get over some obstacles,” Holloway told fans during a recent Periscope session. “B.J. Penn said if UFC ever came to Hawaii, he would come out of retirement for a last one. You guys might just get your wish, and see the legend back in action.”

Not only does Holloway think that Penn could come back, but he thinks that the former lightweight and welterweight champion should come back. However, “Blessed” believes that Penn would need to come back and fight at lightweight:

“I think he needs to fight at his true weight though, at 155. Just because he can make the weight, doesn’t mean he should. Give BJ one last fight, and that would be great I think.”

The last time we saw Penn in action was back in July 2014 when he was battered by top featherweight Frankie Edgar. “The Prodigy” has lost his last three bouts, and he just didn’t look like the same fighter at the tail end of his career.
