The UFC will make their debut trip to Scotland this coming July 18th, and will be hosted by the SSE Hydro in Glasgow. The promotion today announced the initial line up of fights for the historic event, and it features well known name in Great Britain at the head of the card. Brash middleweight contender and trash talking pro Michael Bisping will take on Brazilian grappler-turned striker Thales Leites.
‘The Count’ has gone win-loss in his last eight fights, most recently defeating CB Dolloway by decision at UFC 186. Wins over Brian Stann, Cung Le and Alan Belcher have been shadowed by losses to Vitor Belfort, Tim Kennedy, Chael Sonnen and Luke Rockhold. A win would put Bisping on his first active streak since 2011. Facing him will be a resurgent Leites, who is currently riding an eight-fight spree.
After being cut by the promotion in 2009, Leites went on to compile a 6-1 record outside of the UFC octagon. He got the call to fight Tom Watson at UFC 163 in 2013, and has won five straight for the UFC since returning. As well as decisions over ‘Kong’ and Ed ‘Short Fuse’ Herman, the Brazilian Nova Uniao product has finished Trevor Smith, Francis Carmont and most recently Tim Boetsch at UFC 183.
The co-main event for UFC Fight Night 72 in Glasgow, Scotland features English Striker and TUF veteran Ross Pearson, as he looks to extend his win streak to two following an impressive UFC 185 knockout win over Sam Stout. ‘The Real Deal’ will square off against vetran UFC lightweight Evan Dunham, who most recently snapped a three fight losing streak with a decision win over Rodrigo Damm at UFC 182.
