Max Holloway Reveals Dream Matchup to Test His Skills
BMF champion and former UFC featherweight kingpin Max Holloway has named the one fighter he wants to test his skill against.
This weekend, in the main event of UFC 326, Holloway will defend his BMF strap against Charles Oliveira in a rematch.
The Hawaiian wants to beat the Brazilian one more time, and then run it back with reigning UFC lightweight champion Ilia Topuria or potentially face Conor McGregor next.
During a recent interview with UFC on Paramount+, Max Holloway named the fighter he wants to test his skills against. “Blessed” picked pound-for-pound king and reigning UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev as the “next big thing” and showed interest in fighting the Russian. In the same interview, “Blessed” also added that he is open to facing Makhachev at any weight. He said:
“Whatever weight they wanna go. They asked me, ‘Who you want to test yourself and test your skills against?’ I mean, we missed the shot with Khabib, so Islam is the next big thing, so that’d be fun.”

In 2018, Holloway was ready to take on Khabib Nurmagomedov on short notice for the vacant UFC lightweight title at UFC 223. However, “Blessed” was pulled out of the fight due to the severity of his short-notice weight cut.
After losing his chance to become a UFC double champion in 2018 and also missing a fight against the legendary Khabib Nurmagomedov, Max Holloway now has his crosshairs on “The Eagle’s” close friend, protege, and training partner, Makhachev.
Max Holloway’s upcoming opponent says he has a better resume than both Khabib and Islam
In another interview with UFC on Paramount+, former UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira (36-11) opined that he has a better resume than Islam Makhachev (28-1) and the undefeated Khabib Nurmagomedov (29-0). He said:
“Each and every one of us and them have their moments… Khabib stepped away from the game undefeated. Islam is making history, a two-division champion. But when you look at the resume, the wins, the records, and what I’ve been through, I believe my resume is the best.”

The 36-year-old Brazilian still has big plans. “Do Bronxs” has his crosshairs on the BMF belt for now, and this weekend, if he dethrones Max Holloway, he plans on reclaiming the 155-pound strap after that and has also teased a move back down to featherweight to claim the 145-pound championship and join the list of two-division champs before hanging up the gloves.
