Lerone Murphy believes UFC London main event winner will become champion

UFC star Lerone Murphy has given his thoughts on his upcoming UFC London main event against Movsar Evloev.

On Saturday night, top featherweight contenders Lerone Murphy and Movsar Evloev will collide in the main event of UFC London. Both men have a great case for being the number one contender, but ultimately, only one will go on to challenge Alexander Volkanovski for the belt at some point later this year.

Lerone Murphy is coming off the back of a thoroughly impressive knockout triumph over Aaron Pico, which further cemented his position as one of the very best featherweights on the planet. Still, Evloev hasn’t really put a foot wrong in the cage since arriving in the UFC, and he will firmly believe that this is his chance to shine.

“It’s a massive fight, and I think the winner goes on to be champion for sure.”

The current champ, Alexander Volkanovski, made it clear recently that he believes he owes it to the division to take on the most deserving contender next.

“How can’t you respect that?” Murphy said. “I respect that massively. Everyone respects Volkanovski. He’s a realist, and he’s one of the best ever to do it at featherweight. So, for him to come out and say that, I believe that’s how the sport should be, and he’s a good pioneer for the sport.”

“I’m not looking past this Saturday,” Murphy said. “I’m looking to give everything this Saturday, so I don’t know when I’ll be back in there. But what I would say is regardless of the result, I want to fight active, I want to be active. After the Pico fight, I was screaming for a fight. I thought I was going to fight in December.

“I’ve been sat out for like six, seven months. So, really and truly, at 34, you don’t really want to be taking them breaks, especially if you’re healthy. For me, I just want to be active. So, I want to try to get back in there regardless, end of summer.”
