Henry Cejudo Releases Statement On TJ Dillashaw’s Failed Drug Test

The world of MMA was dealt some shocking news this morning when it broke that bantamweight TJ Dillashaw had relinquished his bantamweight title after an ‘adverse finding’ in a USADA drug test. It’s time Henry Cejudo releases a statement on the matter.

Cejudo beat Dillashaw via TKO in just 32 seconds in ‘The Viper’s’ last fight in January. ‘The Messenger’s’ flyweight title was on the line. It was expected that the two would rematch, this time for Dillashaw’s bantamweight title. But all of that was tossed aside when Dillashaw was suspended for one year by the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC).

Cejudo’s Statement

Cejudo, an Olympic gold medalist who is no stranger to drug testing, released the following statement on the mess via Ariel Helwani:

“I feel bad for him. Obviously, you have your exceptions out there. Some people have been wrongly accused in the past. But people like LancemArmstrong or Marion Jones, and I’ve looked up to her in the past, they have to live with the regret and the dishonesty for the rest of their lives. I honestly feel bad for them.

“I want to reserve judgment, but I also want to say I never wish to anyone who uses PEDs again. There’s no place for that in MMA. This isn’t baseball or basketball. This is another human being with four ounce gloves hitting another human being.

“Prayers to him and his family.”

It’s unknown what Cejudo’s next move will be. The UFC has teased dissolving the flyweight division. With Dillashaw and his desire to fight one more time at 125 pounds on the shelf, they could. He could rematch Joseph Benavidez for the title, but what next?

The bantamweight title is currently in a state of uncertainty. Perhaps Cejudo could face top contender Marlon Moraes for the vacant title. No matter what happens, it’s clear “Magic” deserves the shot.
