Greg Jackson confirms that Jon Jones did not dislocate his right arm

Famed MMA trainer Greg Jackson spoke up today about his prized fighter Jon Jones‘ injured right arm from a Vitor Belfort armbar last Saturday. Previously thought to be facing potential nerve damage in the arm, it appears that Jones is surprisingly healthy considering the circumstances:

“It didn’t dislocate or anything. I’m sure it’s just strained, and maybe a bursa sac or two went out, but I don’t think it’s going to be anything major.” – via Sherdog.com

Jones publicly stated that he had never felt that pain before, and that he felt the arm pop. He was in the hospital after UFC 152, and appeared at the post-fight press conference in a sling. However, today we find out that Jones is not in as bad of shape as we may have thought. His will and determination to continue fighting with an injured arm is a huge testament to Jones as a fighter and champion. Say what you will about the highly-criticized fighter, but Jones endured extreme adversity to come back and win the fight via submission. He would not tap, and he won because of it. Greg Jackson echoed this sentiment with the following:

“It’s a personal choice, and when there’s a lot on the line, like a world title, I think that’s what you have to do. You have to kind of have that mentality where you’re not going to get stopped. As you’re coming up [the ranks], it’s a personal choice for the fighter, but it’s not nearly as important. When you’ve got your world title on the line, it becomes pretty important. It’s a good mentality to have. I was very proud of him for just saying, you know what, I’m going to gut through it and get through it. I thought it was kind of inspirational.”

With the news, hope springs eternal for the anticipated proposed bout of Dan Henderson versus Lyoto Machida may be put on hold in favor of the Hendo/Jones tilt we all want to see. Henderson is returning to training in Asia very soon, and Jones does not seem to be injured any great length of time. Jones is a warrior, who will be the man to end his reign of dominance? Maybe we haven’t even seen this fighter yet.
