Francis Ngannou’s Fight for Freedom: Why the UFC’s Biggest Star Walked Away

PFL CEO John Martin has provided an update on Francis Ngannou‘s future after he wasn’t featured in the recent set of heavyweight rankings.

PFL CEO on Francis Ngannou’s future

“We didn’t come up with the rankings,” Martin told MMA Fighting. “I haven’t spoke to Combat Registry. Maybe it’s Francis’ inactivity that didn’t allow him to be eligible for the rankings. There was nothing on our part to keep him out of the rankings.”

“I don’t have anything to announce at the moment on Francis,” Martin said. “If there’s a fight that makes sense for Francis and the PFL, we’ll make it happen. We’re still working through that. When there’s something to announce, I’ll announce it. I know that’s not satisfying but that’s where I’m at right now.”

Ngannou is a smart businessman and if the right opportunity comes up, you’d have to think he will take it with both hands. Whether or not that’s with the UFC, PFL or in the world of boxing remains to be seen, but hopefully, we get to see him in the cage or ring at least one more time.
