Five Years Later, Jon Jones Fires Back at Claims He Lost Controversial Title Fight

The rivalry between Jon Jones and Dominick Reyes has reignited five years after their controversial title fight at UFC 247. Dominick Reyes, who lost the bout via unanimous decision, continues to claim he was the rightful winner, a sentiment shared by many fans and analysts at the time.
Dominick Reyes Talks Jon Jones Fight
In a recent interview, Dominick Reyes doubled down on his belief, stating, “I’m mentally stronger than him, physically stronger than him, and I beat him… You know who won, he knows who won”.
The fight, held in February 2020, remains one of the most debated decisions in UFC history. Reyes started strong, winning the early 3 rounds in the eyes of many observers, but Jones rallied late to secure the judges’ favor with scores of 48-47, 48-47, and 49-46. Even UFC President Dana White expressed his disagreement with the outcome, saying he believed Reyes had done enough to win.

Jon Jones, now a heavyweight champion and widely regarded as one of MMA’s greatest fighters, took to social media to respond to Reyes’ latest comments. With characteristic sarcasm, Jones quipped, “Dominick let’s play a game of rock paper scissors. Best two out of three. That way you can finally possibly beat me at something—so I don’t have to hear these stories 40 years from now”

Since their fight, both men have taken divergent paths in their careers. Jon Jones moved up to heavyweight and further cemented his legacy with dominant performances. Reyes, on the other hand, endured a rough patch.
