Diego Sanchez Is Bringing Back ‘The Nightmare’ For Fight Night 42

UFC lightweight Diego ‘The Dream’ Sanchez has proved to be one of the most entertaining fighters in the promotion’s history; racking up an insane 10 post-fight bonuses, and three ‘Fight of the year’ winning performances. His upcoming bout against Ross Pearson at Fight Night 42 looks good on paper, but which version of Sanchez will show up?

According to the man himself, fans in New Mexico will get to see the return of ‘The Nightmare’ on Saturday night. Check out what Sanchez had to say while on today’s edition of The MMA Hour:

“I was the first fighter from Albuquerque to be in the UFC and now I get my homecoming. I get my big fight at home. And for me, this fight means more to me than if I was fighting for the title, because this is realistically the last time that I’m going to get to fight in front of all my family.”

“Something that people have been asking for, for a long time,” Sanchez said. “They asked enough to where I’m going to give it to them. I’ve going to give it to them this Saturday. They’re going to get ‘The Nightmare.’ They’re getting ‘The Nightmare.’

Sanchez’s amped up and vivid octagon walks have become a thing of legend, but all the pre-fight talk and tension led to a disappointing result against Myles Jury at UFC 172. Although Sanchez claims food poisoning was to blame for his performance, the loss still left a lot of questions to be answered.

“So I think people know where I’m really at,” Sanchez finished. “I had one bad performance, and I still haven’t even watched the Myles Jury fight, so I don’t know how crappy I looked. “That’s part of the sport and I have to evolve past that,” continued Sanchez. “I’ve worked very hard on improving my speed and my footwork, and I’ve implemented a lot of specific training to try to fill that hole in my game. But yeah, I think that a lot of guys try to play hit and run. It’s probably the best way to fight me and come out victorious, but do the fans like that kind of fight? Does anybody like that type of fight?”

After being in so many battles and bloody wars, it would be nice to see ‘The Nightmare’ emerge from a fight unscathed, but I just don’t think it’s in his DNA. I feel that Sanchez would be better suited to a gladiator’s life, where death is an honarable exit from the arena of battle. As it stands, a loss will threaten Sanchez’s future title hopes, if he still has any, so will the resurrection of ‘The Nightmare’ be enough to revive Sanchez’s dreams?
