Katlyn Cerminara Books Return Fight for October 17th in Edmonton
After over two years away from the cage, former title challenger Katlyn Cerminara finally has a fight booked. She will face Jamey-Lyn Horth in a flyweight showcase on October 17 in Edmonton, Canada. The fight will serve as a road matchup for Cerminara, as Horth, a native of Squamish, British Columbia, will proudly represent the red and white maple leaf.
Katlyn Cerminara Returns
It’s been over two years since fans have seen Katlyn Cerminara inside the cage, but she has had good reason for her extended absence. Cerminara gave birth to her first child, a girl named Saylor, last August. The news should put a smile on the faces of MMA fans, especially after Cerminara emotionally opened up about her family’s struggles with having a baby, including suffering two miscarriages.
The last time fans saw Katlyn Cerminara compete was in March 2024, when she suffered a unanimous decision defeat against Maycee Barber. Prior to that, she suffered another unanimous decision loss to Manon Fiorot. Cerminara will now be looking for her first victory since May 2022, when she defeated Amanda Ribas.
It will also be interesting to see whether Katlyn Cerminara can work her way back into the title picture during the later stages of her career at 37 years old. She was removed from the rankings last year due to inactivity.
After beginning her UFC tenure with a 6-2 record, including victories over former title challengers Jennifer Maia, Alexis Davis, and Irene Aldana, Cerminara earned a shot at UFC gold in February 2020. Unfortunately for her, she ran into Valentina Shevchenko during the absolute prime of the champion’s career. Shevchenko stopped Cerminara with elbows from the crucifix position in the third round.
Returning to MMA after giving birth is an incredibly difficult task, especially in a sport where athletes must constantly monitor their weight. Giving birth naturally induces significant changes to the body, making a return to elite competition a tremendous challenge.
However, it has been proven that motherhood does not have to be a death sentence for a UFC fighter’s championship aspirations. Both Julianna Peña and Mackenzie Dern went on to become UFC champions after giving birth.
Jamey-Lyn Horth Poses a tough challenge
On the other side of the matchup, Jamey-Lyn Horth will be looking to get back into the win column after suffering a controversial unanimous decision loss to JJ Aldrich in April. Many fans and observers believed Horth had done enough to win the fight, but the defeat went down on her record nonetheless.
Horth was signed to the UFC in April 2023, when she accepted a short-notice fight at bantamweight and defeated Hailey Cowan. Since dropping back down to her natural 125-pound weight class, Horth has gone 3-2 in the UFC, picking up victories over Ivana Petrovic, Vanessa Demopoulos, and Tereza Bleda.

Regardless, fans can be excited for the return of the “Blonde Fighter” when she meets Horth in Edmonton on October 17. The card will be headlined by welterweights Joaquin Buckley and Mike Malott.
