Longtime former middleweight champion Anderson Silva saved the day for light heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier when his hated rival Jon Jones was flagged for two potential USADA violations and forced out of their title unification bout in the main event of last night’s (Sat., July 9, 2016) UFC 200 pay-per-view (PPV) from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
A madcat scramble predictably ensued, and somehow “The Spider” was able and willing to take on the light heavyweight champion on the main card of UFC 200 not even two months after he was forced out of his scheduled UFC 198 bout with Uriah Hall in his native Brazil due to gall bladder surgery. Silva admitted that he hadn’t been training, and he came in at only 198.5 pounds for the 205-pound fight, so he was understandably the underdog against the almost always dominant ‘DC.’
And as expected, Cormier brought home a clear-cut decision win, riding his world-class wrestling to victory that drew boos from the Las Vegas crowd. But it wasn’t without at least some adversity, as Silva had Cormier hurt in the last minute of the bout with a vicious body kick. Watch the full fight video highlights of Cormier’s win here:
