Breaking news regarding former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones was reported earlier today (October 23, 2015), indicating that Jones has been fully reinstated by the UFC. After being arrested on felony hit-and-run charges last April, “Bones” was stripped of his title and suspended indefinitely, but it appears as if he’s now back and ready to go.

While he was away, the light heavyweight division changed quite a bit. Daniel Cormier and Anthony “Rumble” Johnson met last May for the vacant title with “DC” scoring a third-round submission victory to become the undisputed 205-pound boss.

Earlier this month, the former Olympian put his title on the line for the very first time as he met Alexander “The Mauler” Gustafsson in the main event of October 3’s UFC 192. The two battled it out in a gut wrenching and bloody five-round war that ultimately saw Cormier come out on top with a split-decision victory.

Jones, and “DC” have actually met before, as the two fought at last January’s UFC 182. Leading up to the bout, the trash talk, physical confrontation, and hatred between the two led to one of the biggest rivalries that the sport has ever seen. In the end it was “Bones” who scored a unanimous decision victory.

Now, however, the roles are reversed as Cormier is holding the belt that Jones technically never lost, ultimately setting up one of the biggest rematches of all-time. “DC” commented on “Bones” being reinstated today (Via MMAFighting), noting that he’s very happy and that he can’t wait for the rematch:

“Congrats to Jon “Bones” Jones on his reinstatement to the UFC. For MMA fans this is a good day. A guy that has shown to be one of the greatest fighters of all time is back. As a competitor there could be no other outcome and this is the best news I’ve heard in a long time. Jon has said the right things and his actions are backing his words up. We all hope this is the last time we have to deal with anything like that. And lastly as a fan u get to see see 2 of the best fighters compete against each other. With that being said I can’t wait to compete against him again. –DC”

Has Cormier improved enough, or will Jones come hungrier than ever to regain his title?
