Dana White Reacts To Colby Covington Casino Incident

DanaMad

Late last night, Colby Covington made waves when he tracked down UFC President Dana White at the Palms Casino in Vegas to ask why he hadn’t gotten his title shot.

Former interim champ Covington has been at odds with the UFC ever since they supposedly snubbed him for a title shot at tomorrow night’s UFC 235 pay-per-view. The fight was reportedly offered at last year’s UFC 228, but Covington had to undergo a procedure for chronic sinusitis.

Welterweight champ Tyron Woodley will face Kamaru Usman in the co-main event of UFC 235, but Covington believes that should be his fight. “Chaos” has asked the UFC to release him and even threatened to sue his bosses.

But while Covington may claim that White was supposedly ‘pissed’ about him finding him last night, White claimed at today’s UFC 236 presser that wasn’t the case. He repeated his catchphrase that you have to take the fights you’re given, and Covington didn’t do that:

Colby Covington, is, uh, you know, he’s another perfect example. He was offered the fight, you didn’t take the fight. And he can come up with a million excuses why he didn’t. He didn’t take the fight. He was the interim champ, you were next in line for Tyron Woodley. We offered you the fight in Dallas, somewhere in Texas, he didn’t take the fight and that’s that.”

Not Even Mad At The Chaos

Many assume White is on the verge of cutting Covington loose, but the polarizing UFC public fact said that’s simply not the case. The video of last night’s run-in was much worse than it actually was according to White. He and Covington actually talked, and “Chaos” understands the scenario:

“Everybody thinks I hate this kid. I don’t hate the kid. Even after last night, I don’t hate the kid. And last night wasn’t as bad as it looked on video. It looked like it was whatever. But we were cool and we talked last night. Face-to-face, he gets it, he knows he didn’t take the fight so he didn’t get the fight.”
