Conor McGregor vs. Carlos Prates Rumors Debunked: What’s Real and Timeline Behind the Talk

Carlos Prates, Conor McGregor

This past weekend, during UFC Houston, Conor McGregor kept the attention on his side with nonstop posts on X.

The Dubliner posted a picture of the UFC welterweight rankings.

In another X post, McGregor stated that his comeback opponent could be a “no name” fighter.

There isn’t enough clarity about what “The Notorious” meant. He could be referring to former champ Belal Muhammad, whose nickname is “Remember the Name,” or the 37-year-old might be talking about facing any other ranked 170-pounder at the White House event, for which he has been gearing up.

Last week, the Irishman also claimed that he had been given a date and an opponent for his return. He said he has accepted the fight and is now waiting for the contract.

Earlier this year, during a Roblox stream, “The Notorious” had stated that his previous contract was based around PPV points. However, with the company’s new broadcast deal with Paramount, the pay-per-view model is eliminated in most regions, so he would need to sign a fresh contract before his comeback.

Now, rumors are circulating that a potential matchup between Carlos Prates and Conor McGregor is in the works.
“The Nightmare” is currently riding a two-fight win streak, with both victories coming by knockout against notable opponents.

Prates also recently called out an opponent for not signing the contract to fight him. Although he did not name the opponent, the timing of the post coincides with recent posts by Conor McGregor.

Adding fuel to the speculation, former UFC double champ Henry Cejudo also posted about the same rumor on X:

“Conor McGregor vs Carlos Prates?! 🤔👀”

As per insiders, reigning UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev could make his first title defense against Ian Machado Garry.

If Carlos Prates chooses to fight Conor McGregor, it would likely be the biggest payday of his career.

If that matchup materializes, in the meantime, No. 3-ranked contender Michael Morales could be paired with Kamaru Usman, and Jack Della Maddalena vs. Belal Muhammad could also be made to determine the next potential title challenger in the UFC’s CURRENT HOTTEST DIVISION.

Dana White’s latest update regarding Conor McGregor’s return

This past weekend at the UFC Houston post-fight presser, Dana White was asked to weigh in on Conor McGregor’s recent X posts and the Irishman’s claim that he’s been offered a fight and he’s accepted. White said:

“If it were done and he had accepted, I would announce it.”
