Former two-weight champion, Conor McGregor may have put a hold on a potential UFC return this year, however, Chael Sonnen claims that no success awaits him in a return to the Octagon — only an “a** whipping” from other contenders.

McGregor, a former undisputed lightweight and featherweight champion in the promotion, dropped the biggest hint on his immediate fighting future last month, claiming he was “happy” with what he had achieved in his combat sports career.

And still hoping against the reality of a potential Presidential campaign in the Republic of Ireland this year, the 36-year-old shied away from addressing his murky future in the UFC.

“My heart bleeds for my country right now… I’m happy with what I’ve done,” Conor McGregor said of a UFC return. “There’s something else for me that’s in my gut right now.

“My comeback will be slated as the greatest comeback of all time, so it has to be right,” Conor McGregor continued. “And right now Ireland is in my thoughts.”

However, warned away from any potential return to action — McGregor, who stills holds a pair of fights on his promotional contract, has been told a loss only awaits him in his return to action — if that ever happens.

“What part of it would he (Conor McGregor) come back for?” Chael Sonnen said on Good Guy/Bad Guy. “We’re told by him that he doesn’t need the money, we can see that his time is occupied, I mean a lot of fighters have to cling to the sport because they have nothing else to do.”

“I don’t even mean that to be a jerk, when they bring him back, they put him in a main event, all of a sudden you’re asking him to do five rounds,” Sonnen continued. “We’ve got a guy who can’t breathe for a full round This is just a reality, there’s nothing to come back for… There’s no reason to come back, there’s an a** whipping waiting for you.”
