Conor McGregor Says He Owes Nate Diaz Trilogy Fight

Conor McGregor says that in his mind he owes a trilogy fight to Nate Diaz.

For weeks, there was the belief that McGregor would make his return to competition under the UFC banner against Donald Cerrone. This fight was originally targeted for July 6th as part of International Fight week in Las Vegas, Nevada at the T-Mobile Arena. This fight won’t happen in the near future as Cerrone is slated to fight Al Iaquinta in May.

This potential third showdown between two of the highest pay-per-view drawing stars that the promotion has under contract would no doubt be a big fight.

Fight fans have not seen Diaz compete inside of the Octagon since his rematch with McGregor back at UFC 202 when he suffered a majority decision loss five months after Diaz submitted McGregor in their first bout at UFC 196.

While recently at Binny’s Beverage Depot in Chicago, the former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion expressed his interest in a third fight against Diaz.

“He fought me, he beat me. He gave me a rematch at the exact same weight, there was no hesitation, that’s a true fighter right there,” McGregor said (H/T to TMZ Sports). “I have nothing but respect … I owe him the trilogy now and the trilogy will happen.”
