Coach: McGregor Will Embarrass Aldo & Make It Look Easy

Conor McGregor knocks out Chad Mendes at UFC 189

Interim UFC featherweight champion the “Notorious” Conor McGregor is a man that never lacks confidence. He is never afraid to say that he will put his opponent away in the first round, and when he says something, he truly believes it.

However, McGregor will be facing the toughest test of his career when he finally meets reigning 145-pound boss Jose Aldo in the main event of December 12’s UFC 194 in a title unifier from Las Vegas. Aldo is the only featherweight champion in UFC history, and he has proven himself to be amongst the best pound-for-pound fighters on the planet.

We know that the “Notorious” one sees himself coming out on top next month, but McGregor’s striking coach, Owen Roddy, who recently spoke with FightLand Vice on the upcoming fight, had a bolder prediction.

Not only does Roddy feel as if McGregor will “embarrass” Aldo, but he feels as if the Irish sensation will make it look easy as well:

“I think Conor is going to shock everybody again. Honestly, I think he’s going to make this look easy. I really think Conor is going to embarrass Aldo. I think Aldo is going to come out very aggressive, Conor will make him miss and then he’s going to punish him for that with his devastating striking. Aldo has to close that distance and Conor is a lot bigger than him, he’s a lot longer. In order for Aldo to land, he’s going to have move forward. He has to get on the inside to land them shots and that’s when he’s going to get clipped. Conor is going to be very elusive and he’ll crack him as he’s trying to come in.”

Aldo and McGregor were originally set to square off in the main event of last July’s UFC 198, but “Scarface” was unfortunately forced to pull out of the bout with a rib injury. Former title challenger Chad Mendes stepped in on short notice to meet McGregor, and many felt as if “Money” was able to exploit some serious holes in the game of the Irishman.

Mendes was able to take McGregor down repeatedly and hold him there, but at the end of the day, the “Notorious” one was able to put “Money” away with a brutal left hand in the second round.

To Roddy, that’s the most important part, as he noted that the fact of the matter is that it only takes one shot from McGregor to end a fight:

“The second round started on the feet again and Mendes just couldn’t deal with that. It’s the same with all of them. At the end of the day, Conor has 25 minutes in there to hit you once on the chin so the odds are always going to be in his favor. The odds are in his favor even if it’s a five minute round, never mind 25 minutes.”
