Carlos Condit vs. Thiago Alves Possible For Summer UFC Event

Stagnant on the sidelines since tearing his ACL in a UFC 171 loss to Tyron Woodley last March, former interim UFC welterweight champion Carlos Condit is eager to get back into action soon. “The Natural Born Killer” recently teased a return at May’s UFC 187, which was announced with a stacked card last night, but nothing has been made official.

Right after the blockbuster UFC 187 event was unveiled, however, UFC Tonight’s Ariel Helwani reported that Condit was in talks to face off with former title contender Thiago Alves, who recently finished Jordan Mein with a vicious second round body kick at UFC 183:

The No. 4-ranked Condit could also take on “The Pitbull” at May 16’s UFC Fight Night 66 from Manila, the promotion’s first-ever event on Filipino soil. He became a fan favorite during a trip to the fight-obsessed islands last year, and his bout with Alves would be a great co-main event for the Frankie Edgar vs. Urijah Faber-headlined card.

A large number of fans believe that Condit should face a higher ranked opponent in his return, but truth be told, he may need a bit of a tune-up fight. Despite his shining track record of taking on the top welterweights in the world, Condit is only 1-3 in his last four bouts, with the lone win coming by way of extremely controversial decision against Nick Diaz.

A fight with Alves would be a potentially exciting slugfest that gauges his readiness to jump back into fighting Top 5-ranked opponents. Do you want to see this fight, or do you think Condit should get a bigger name for his comeback fight?
