“The Spider” was taken to a hospital in Brazil after an incident in training…..

Former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva suffered a gruesome leg injury at UFC 168 and is lucky to be able to still compete. Booked in to face Nick Diaz at UFC 183, “The Spider” will make his return to fighting just 13 months after shattering his leg in his second fight with Chris Weidman.

His recovery has no doubt been an inspirational story, but news from Sportv.globo indicates that Silva was involved in quite the scare this past Monday (November 3rd, 2014). Check it out:

“”Anderson Silva lived a drama at the end of Monday morning. After a workout of jiu-jitsu in XGym Academy in Rio de Janeiro, the fighter felt sharp pains in his back while trying to get up and fell to the ground. Crying of pain, the Spider still despaired over the fact that I wasn’t feeling my legs, which lasted a few minutes. He was placed on a stretcher and transported to the Hospital Bar d’Or, where it was reviewed by an expert in spine, the orthopedist Sérgio Gurgel.”

“The former UFC champion went through MRI, CAT scan and blood work, and none of them pointed out something serious with your health. The diagnosis was of low back pain (pain in the lumbar region) acute, and Anderson was discharged on Tuesday morning, after spending the night under medical care as a precaution. He’s fine, and it was a big scare. “

So it seems that Silva was given the all clear after just one night in the Brazilian hospital, but not being able to feel your legs is surely indicative of something going wrong.

The fight with Diaz is still a go, but does this signify age finally starting to catch up with the 39 year old MMA legend? Anderson Silva has become somewhat a modern myth in the sport, but today’s news once again proves he is human. Let’s hope this was just a scare, and nothing more.
