Alexander Volkanovski Trilogy Fight With Max Holloway Could Happen In March

Alexander Volkanovski

Alexander Volkanovski has revealed that the much anticipated trilogy fight with Max Holloway could happen in march of 2022.

Holloway is coming off a very impressive win over Yair Rodriguez, which was a fight that is a perennial “Fight of the Year” candidate. After his win over Rodriguez, Holloway grabbed the microphone and told everyone watching “To be the best, you have to beat the best and the best is ‘Blessed'”. Holloway has etched himself as the best. The best challenger in the featherweight division, that is.

Volkanovski is the best featherweight in the world at the moment, as he has bested Holloway two times already. A trilogy fight is in the makings, but ‘Volk’ doesn’t have time for the games that Holloway is currently playing.

Alexander Volkanovski appeared on ‘The AllStar’ for an interview when he gave the world a possible time frame for the third fight between the two.

“Yeah, man. Obviously, we can’t say too much but the UFC have always made it clear that that’s what we’re waiting on. I said I wanted to fight earlier but that division’s in a weird situation. We’ve got guys that are close but if Giga [Chikadze] and [Calvin] Kattar fought now, there’s an option right now if Giga goes out and takes him out. You got Arnold Allen on winning streaks.”

“You got all these guys that are very close but that one was a fight that the UFC wanted us to wait on. So, we were waiting and we’re like, ‘Oh, we’ll just do that,’ and they go, ‘Around March is gonna probably be the date. That’s what they said and that’s what they’re speaking to. That’s what it’s gonna be. Obviously, people are gonna play whatever games they want and do whatever but that’s just the game. You know me, I don’t really play the games but I know that’s what’s gonna happen. They can say whatever they want but it’s looking like March.” (Transcribed by middleeasy)

Volkanovski subtly let everyone know that there are other contenders on the list that he could fight as well. If Holloway keeps dancing around and possibly looking for a fight with Conor McGregor, ‘Volk’ would have no problem skipping over a guy he has beaten twice already. Dana White has already shut down the possibility of a McGregor and Holloway rematch.

Holloway is undoubtedly the second best fighter in the division and many argued that he should have won the second meeting between the two fighters. A trilogy fight is obviously the fight to make, but this could be Max’s last chance at featherweight gold for a long, long time.
