Before the historic UFC 205 event takes place on Nov. 12 in New York City, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) served up UFC Fight Night 98 to whet the appetites of mixed martial arts enthusiasts. Strawweights Heather Jo Clark (7-6) and Alexa Grasso (9-0) did battle to get the main card started.

Clark tested Grasso early with a combination, but it was blocked. An overhand right was blocked by Grasso, but “Hurricane” moved to the clinch position. Grasso quickly got her back off the fence. Grasso clipped Clark as she went for a takedown. She swarmed on her opponent with combinations including kicks, knees and strikes. She held Clark against the cage and landed a short elbow. Blood poured from the nose of “Hurricane.” Grasso threw a high kick and another combination. The round ended with Grasso in control.

The second round began and Grasso blocked a high kick a little over a minute in. Clark caught a kick and pushed Grasso against the cage. The strength of Grasso proved too much as she reversed the position. “”Hurricane” went for a standing guillotine, but she was well out of position. The two separated and Clark tried to control Grasso again. She took Grasso down, but her opponent scrambled out as the round ended.

A kick to the body connected early for Grasso at the start of the final frame. Clark again pressed Grasso against the fence, only to get outmuscled. Clark tried pulling guard, but it didn’t work. A jab found the target for Grasso. A counter right hand was there for “Hurricane.” Grasso landed a right hand. A straight right followed by a leg kick connected for Grasso and she did it again just a few seconds later. Clark pushed forward, but she was quickly tied up. Grasso lifted her opponent and slammed her down and landed a one-two combination followed by a kick to the body. The fight came to a close shortly after.
