After missing weight, Dennis Hallman released by UFC

Happy trails, Dennis Hallman.

The UFC severed ties with the veteran after Hallman’s fight with Thiago Tavares at UFC on FX 5 was scrapped due to Hallman reportedly coming in seven pounds overweight. But according to MMAJunkie, the 51-14-2 fighter was sent home with both his fight purse and win bonus. The reason is that Hallman is dealing with personal matters that are affecting his fight life.

“I am on my way home,” Hallman told MMAjunkie.com. “I have some serious personal family matters that I am dealing with. That is why the fight isn’t taking place.”

Although initial reports stated that Hallman came in seven pounds overweight, sources close to the fighter say that was not the case and would not say how overweight Hallman was at the weigh in. Meanwhile, Tavares (17-4-1) was also paid his fight and win bonus.

This isn’t the first time that Hallman mised weight. Back at UFC 140 in December, “Superman” came in at 158.5 pounds for a lightweight fight with John Makdessi. The fight was turned into a catchweight bout and Hallman won via first round submission. Thursday’s infraction was enough for the UFC and opted to let Hallman go to deal with whatever is going on back in his hometown of Seattle, WA.
