Wanderlei Silva Responds to Chael Sonnen's Challenge: Let's Go!

It didn't take long at all for Wanderlei Silva to respond to Chael Sonnen's statement on last night's "UFC Tonight." Sonnen declared he would indeed stay at 205, and to fight Silva in a bout that has been a long time coming. Much has been made of the brutal trash talk Sonnen has spewed forth about Brazil, and ‘The Axe Murderer’ has taken noticeable offense. Silva tweeted his response today, along with the now infamous video that started their beef:

This should be a fight that is inevitably booked by the UFC, and could bring a bit of legitimacy back to Sonnen’s outspoken game. He’s looked a bit silly talking a big game before being destroyed by Anderson Silva and Jon Jones in his last two bouts. While Sonnen will have a better chance against Wand, never count the former Pride FC champion out. We’re still awaiting word from the UFC, but both sides appear ready to make this bout a reality. More on the details as they arise.

Completely insignificant fight but that doesn't stop it form being super fun!

Wanderlei always has a chance to smash you apart or put you out cold but Chael isn't going to stand and trade like Stann and Le did, he'll march right over and blast through him with a double leg.
I don't see Wand having a chance of stopping the takedown and I doubt he would get a sub from the bottom or get back up once down.

Wouldn't mind seeing this for Chael's retirement fight, unless he plans on calling out Vitor!

Thats what UFC needs, with so many cards. They can't sell every PPV on a title or number 1 contender fight anymore. They need guys who will draw based on how they fight and how much fans want to see it.

I'll take chael vs Wandy over a couple of the title fights coming up.

I actually think Chael has a shot at beating wandy standing, his stand up is understated. Lose or no lose. He dropped Anderson several times. More then all the other fighters did combined.

@ N.C.; He has no chance at beating Wandy standing. He also didn't drop Silva. Silva was off balance when he got hit. That alone tells you a lot about Silva's health in that first fight. He is never off balance but I digress. If Chael is stupid enough to stand with Wandy he deserves the first round stanky leg it will earn him.

Silva was NOT off balance, it was Chael's punch that knocked him off balance. Listen, I'm not going to argue that Chael's stand up is Spider worthy or Wandy worthy, but give the man his credit. Chael ALMOST dropped him from a straight left when Anderson was standing flat footed. Check the video, it's really not up for debate.

Your argument that a fighter who hits his opponent and puts him down while he is off balance is not a credible fighter is incredible.

The height of skill is to hit your opponent whilst he is off balance, and is unable to defend himself. Fighting is about putting yourself into an unfair competitive advantage - this is most often achieved through applying your strength in the moment of your opponents weakness.

I suggest you read Tsun Tsu, the art of war.

Exactly! Anderson won the fight. It's not a debate about Chael being better then Spider. He's not. The point is, Chaels stand up is under-rated.

1st, Anderson was not flat footed.
2nd, I am not arguing that Chael isn't a credible fighter, you are illiterate. I am arguing that he isn't a good striker. He lands but he doesn't get knock downs. When Anderson knocks someone down it is because he rocks them and they lose balance. Yes, hitting someone when they are off balance is a skill but hitting them as they are so off balance that a slight tap knocks them over isn't a sign of superior striking in a guy with no standing KO/TKO wins. It is a lucky punch on an injured Anderson. Chael's stand up is over rated if it is anything. The guy is a brawler with no power. Worst attribute combo ever for striking. Wand Is a brawler with power. He will destroy Sonnen if he stands with him.

Check 2:26 and you can PLAINLY see that Anderson was flat footed when he was punched and almost dropped. It's time for you to tap out on this one...

Wand hasn't shown much of his BJJ but he does have a black belt and Chael ***** at defending triangles so I could see Wandy winning via sub. It isn't likely but it is possible.

no you got weaked because you say Chael isn't good at defending subs when he has only been subbed in the last couple of years by a world champion BJJ fighter and the GOAT, who also subbed Travis Lutter.

Nate Marquardt's 2nd degree blackbelt didn't help him sub Chael did it

@Michael S. Having fought anderson and bones, you would have to think that Chael has no mental demons left to overcome. That experience in itself must be a huge advantage to Chael considering he will be fighting a guy sizeably smaller than Bones, less athletic, slower. I think a GNP beating is a good prediction.

I don't care if this fight has any significance. All I can see a big grudge match coming up. The "Axe Murderer" by round 2 TKO.

I agree mate. My guess is that Wandelei will be motivated to beat Cheal's *** and Cheal will be equally motivated to get his big paycheck.

I wouldn't count Wanderlei submitting Chael out. Back in pride, Wanderlei put Sakuraba in an arm-bar but let it go because he enjoyed giving people concussions so much. That's Sakuraba in his prime. The legendary Gracie killer. You know him and Damien Maia will be practicing some jiu-jitsu for this fight.

no good match up for chael. he won't knock wandy out. the opposite may more likely happen. wand has spend many wars on the ground back in pride. he sure can defend himself, get back up or and even submit chael (which I don't see chael do to wand)
either chael is gonna beat him by lay'n pray or he's gonna ktfo cold. no way would chael survice the kinda onslaught that happened in the stan-wanderlei fight haha!
