Amanda Nunes On Ronda Rousey: She Knows She Can’t Win
Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey hasn’t competed since she was brutally knocked out by Holly Holm at November 2015’s UFC 193, but it was announced by the promotion yesterday (October 12, 2016) that she will be making her long awaited return at December 30’s UFC 207 from Las Vegas against reigning 135-pound champion Amanda Nunes.
Nunes will be looking to make the first defense of her title against Rousey after viciously stopping Miesha Tate at July 9’s UFC 200 to secure the strap. The Brazilian appears to be very confident heading into the bout despite it being without question the biggest fight of her career:
“This fight is gonna change my life, my career,” Nunes told TMZ. “I hope she’s ready. I know she’s a very tough opponent, but I’m the best in the world.”
“She’s gonna be surprised when I connect with my punches,” Nunes continued. “This is gonna be harder for Ronda, because everyone expects her to win. She can’t, she knows that.”
Prior to stopping Tate, “Lioness” had won three straight bouts over the likes of Shayna Baszler, Sara McMann and Valentina Schevchenko with two of those victories coming by way of finish. She currently holds a 6-1 Octagon record.
Rousey, on the other hand, held an undefeated professional record before Holm snapped her 13 fight winning streak. The “Rowdy” one has stayed away from the media during the last year, and it’s unknown where she is currently at mentally and physically, but we’d have to assume that she will be coming full force in hopes of getting the title back.
