TUF 14 Diary: Episode 1 Recap and AnalysisPosted on September 23, 2011, 12:24 AM by Ryan Ventura
It’s back Lowkick’ers and I’m back too to bring it to you. For those that remember, I kept a diary of for The Ultimate Fighter season 13. Every single fight, every bit of drama, and all the comedy that is TUF will be covered for the 14th and last season on Spike. I wasn’t a huge fan of the 13th season and I honestly haven’t been the biggest fan of the seasons before that (except for the first season).
It wasn’t until the UFC announced that featherweights and bantamweights would be getting their shine this season, that I truly saw potential and that this could be the very best season of The Ultimate Fighter. Add coaches Jason Miller and Michael Bisping in the mix and we have a recipe for pure entertainment. We can expect the same old TUF antics that, new pranks, and new fighter conflicts. What could be the biggest difference aside from weight class in this season is the amount of experienced and talented fighters. This year of people who tried out and appeared in the first episode is like a “who’s who” of well-known fighters and top prospects. The likes of Din Thomas, Kit Cope, Wagnney Fabiano, Ian McCall, and Olympic Bronze Medalist Alexis Vila tried out. John Dodson, Bryan Caraway, Carson Beebe, Micah Miller managed to make it to the first episode to fight their way into the house.
The two-hour special on Spike was filmed in the famous Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. UFC president Dana White welcomed 32 fighters, 16 featherweights, and 16 bantamweights. From beginning to end each fight was straight action. There were eight TKOs / KOs, five submissions, and three decisions. Not only were the fights exciting, a lot of the men who fought demonstrated some spectacular striking, ground, and grappling technique. There were a few upsets and a lot of “holy expletives” during each fight. I’m really going to be looking forward to this season and you should too. Keep it on lock with Lowkick.com for next week’s TUF 14 Episode 2 recap.
