WSOF 29 Results: Justin Gaethje TKO’s Brian Foster

WSOF 29

It was once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Saturday, March 12th, 2016) will come from WSOF 29. Headlining the card are Justin Gaethje and Brian Foster, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the rest of the main card.

Justin Gaethje (16-0) and Brian Foster (25-9) met in a lightweight title bout in the main event. Both guys come out throwing bombs. Gaethje pushed him down and landed a big right hand. Foster rocked him, but Gaethje stayed tough. Gaethje landed a series of kicks and Foster fell down clutching at his left leg. It appeared that he had a cramp in his leg, or it could be a knee injury. A very odd finish but Gaethje is still the lightweight champion.

Josh Copeland (13-3) and Mike Hayes (19-11-2) met in a heavyweight bout in the co-main event. Both guys came out firing in round one. Copeland was leaping in with his strikes and then had his hands down, which led him to being tagged over and over by Hayes. Hayes started to land some good combos in the second round. Copeland was still T-ing off with some big shots. Hayes couldn’t find his range, and that was really hurting him as Copeland was landing at will and busting up Hayes’ face. As the fight went on, it because a one-sided fight for Copeland. Copeland was awarded the unanimous decision.

Cory Devela (15-7) and Louis Taylor (12-3) met in a middleweight bout. Devela shot in for a takedown early in round one but was caught by Taylor with a guillotine choke. A few seconds later, Devela passed out.

Opening the main card on NBCSN was Josh Cavan (11-76) vs. Kris Hocum (8-4) in a welterweight bout. A slow start to round one. Cavan used the clinch a lot in this round and had the range. Hocum was using leg kicks when he was able to do so. Cavan came out fast in round two before being clinched by Hocum. Cavan tried to take the fight to the ground but kept getting stuffed. Hocum’s clinch work dominate. Hocum took him down early in round three, but Cavan got back to his feet right away. The two exchanged brief takedowns in the final round. The judges gave Hocum the win by decision.
