UFC 201 Preliminary Results: Nikita Krylov KO’s Ed Herman

It’s once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Saturday, July 30th, 2016) will come in the form of UFC 201. Headlining the card are Robbie Lawler and Tyron Woodley, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the preliminary section of the card.

Nikita Krylov (21-4) vs. Ed Herman (23-12, 1NC) in a light heavyweight bout closed the UFC 201 preliminary card on Fox Sports 2. What a spectacular finish. In round 1, Krylov with a left hook then clinched with him up against the fence. Krylov was mixing things up with his kicks. Herman took him down with two minutes to go in the round. Herman got half guard and worked him over with strikes. Krylov got back to his feet moments later, and they exchanged. In round 2, Herman came out aggressive, and Krylov caught him with a head kick that put Herman out cold and this one is a wrap.

Jorge Masvidal (29-11) and Ross Pearson (19-11, 1NC) met in a welterweight bout at UFC 201. A good back and forth fight that almost saw finishes. In round 1, Pearson was looking for a left hook early and was throwing some hard shots early. Masvidal was looking to counter strike with him. Pearson took him down and got his back but Masvidal stood up. Pearson clinched and put him on the fence. Masvidal with some crushing knees and then an elbow before separating. Pearson missed a flying knee. In round 2, Masvidal dropped him early in the round with a left hand and swarmed him with strikes from guard then Pearson got back to his feet and Masvidal slammed him down. Pearson got back up and was throwing hard shots. In round 3, both guys kept the pace of this fight in this round and were exchanging with hooks. Masvidal landed a big kick to the body off a counter punch. Pearson was having a hard time with his reach in this round. Pearson was landing an inside leg kick to the left leg of Masvidal and it was bruised up pretty good. Masvidal earned the unanimous decision.

Anthony Hamilton (14-5) and Damian Grabowski (20-3) met in a heavyweight bout at UFC 201. Hamilton tagged him right out of the gate, dropped him with combos and finished this fight in fashion.

Wilson Reis (20-6) vs. Hector Sandoval (12-2) in a flyweight bout opened the UFC 201 Fox Sports 2 preliminary bouts. This one did not last long at all. Sandoval landed a big right hand to open the round and then they started throwing bombs. Reis with a big takedown and got his back but Sandoval stood up. Reis pressed him up against the fence and took him down and got his back. Sandoval scrambled and got on top but Reis stood up. Reis took him back down and got his back and locked in the rear-naked choke.

Michael Graves (6-0) vs. Bojan Velickovic (14-3) in a welterweight bout finishes off the UFC 201 Fight Pass preliminary card. Not the most entertaining bout you will ever see, but it was okay. In round 1, Graves was doing a lot of faints early while Velickovic was throwing head kicks that were missing. Velickovic was throwing more strikes than Graves early. Graves went for a takedown with two minutes left, but Velickovic shrugged him off and clinched. They exchanged to end the round. In round 2, Graves took him down to begin the round and got his back. Graves went for a rear-naked choke but couldn’t get it. Velickovic stood up with Graves on his back. Graves moved to full guard but then got back mount and landed some strikes. In round 3, Velickovic went for a takedown to begin the round and got it with a slam. Velickovic got his back, but Graves stood up and shifted his hips and got on top in half guard. Velickovic scrambled out, and Graves got his back. Velickovic got him off and stood up. Graves went for a single leg takedown, but Velickovic stuffed it. They exchanged to the bell. The judges scored the fight a majority draw.

Opening the UFC 201 Fight Pass prelims is Cesar Arzamendia (7-3) vs. Damien Brown (15-10) in a lightweight bout. This one did not last long at all. Arzamendia opened up with a jumping switch roundhouse kick. Arzamendia clinched and landed several knees to the body. Brown pressed the action and landed some combos. Brown dropped him with a right hand and swarmed him with strikes on the ground. Arzamendia recovered while Brown landed some big elbows. Arzamendia went for a heel hook but let go and got back to his feet. Brown dropped him again and finished him on the ground with strikes.
