UFC 189 Medical Suspensions: MacDonald, Mendes Dealt Full Terms

Last weekend’s (Sat., July 11, 2015) UFC 189 pay-per-view (PPV) from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada will go down in mixed martial arts (MMA) history as quite possibly the best top-to-bottom main card in promotion history, and much of that was due to the amazing back-and-forth wars and finishes that delivered on the mid-summer spectacle.

Not surprisingly, the brutal card resulted in a long list of potentially lengthy medical suspensions, headlined by welterweight title challenger Rory MacDonald’s 185-day sit for the broken nose and broken foot he suffered in his fifth round loss to champion Robbie Lawler, who received a 47-day suspension for his badly cut lip.

The warriors took part in a classic co-main event that could be one of the best UFC fights ever, a bloody affair that resulted in a bevy of injuries and a show of respect when the combatants posed for a photo in the hospital.

Main event participants Conor McGregor and Chad Mendes didn’t emerge unscathed, either. ‘Notorious’ was given a 45-day sit for a cut above his right eyebrow given to him by Chad Mendes. ‘Money’ got the full term pending a doctor’s clearance of his right thumb in the loss.

Here the full list of UFC 189 medical suspensions released by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC):
