Miesha Tate Drops Jessica Eye Twice, Sweeps Scorecards In Win

Two questions ran rampant heading into UFC on FOX 16. The first one being, could Miesha Tate (17-5) extend her winning streak to four? The second was, is Jessica Eye (11-3) ready to move up to the next level in the women’s bantamweight division?

Both questions were answered at UFC on FOX 16. “Cupcake” was the one who walked out of Chicago with a win.

The fight began and Eye countered Tate’s hook with a stiff jab. Eye clipped Tate with a couple of more straights to the face. Both Tate and Eye were bleeding from the nose. Tate grazed Eye with a front kick, but Eye responded with a combination.

A counter right hand from Eye had Tate a little woozy momentarily. Tate quickly rebounded and missed an overhand. “Cupcake” dropped “Evil” with a hook. Tate connected with a barrage of elbows on the ground as the round came to a close.

Eye landed an inside kick to start the second round. Tate landed a hook and blocked a high kick. Cupcake” got the clinch and pushed “Evil” to the fence. Eye landed a punch on the break. Tate missed a straight right to the body. She popped Eye with a right hand. Tate connected with a flurry and dropped Eye.

Tate gained side control and looked to transition to the north-south position. Tate ripped Eye to the body with elbows. Tate attempted a one-armed guillotine, but it was defended by Eye and the horn sounded.

Round three began and Tate stalked Eye. “Evil” was able to connect with a leg kick. Tate returned the favor shortly after. “Cupcake” blocked a high kick. Eye dug in Tate’s body with a hook. Eye countered Tate with a hook. Tate drove in for a power double takedown and landed it. “Cupcake” gained control of Eye’s back.

With under a minute left in the fight, Tate retained control and kept kicking her opponent. Referee Yves Lavigne stood both fighters back up. Eye landed a knee. The final horn sounded as Tate went for a takedown.

The judges scoring the bout had “Cupcake” winning all three rounds.

Final Result: Miesha Tate def. Jessica Eye via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
