Melvin Guillard Signs Multi-Fight Deal With World Series Of Fighting

Heavy-hitting lightweight Melvin Guillard had a rocky road during his journey with the UFC; ‘The Young Assassin’ was once labelled title material, but numerous losses and personal troubles hindered Guillard’s success within the promotion. His UFC London loss to Michael Johnson proved to be the last straw for the troubled lightweight, and he was cut soon after.

Guillard had only scored one win in his last five fights for the UFC, and his lacklustre performance against ‘The Menace’ was a shadow of the fighter that holds the most knockouts in UFC lightweight history. News has emerged that ‘The Young Assassin’ has found a new home, and will be competing with The World Series Of Fighting.

Check out what Prez Ray Sefo had to say to Bleacherreport.com:

“We are pleased and excited to announce to the MMA world that Melvin Guillard has a new home at the World Series of Fighting,”

Melvin Guillard was only too happy to announce the news stating:

“I’m excited to start a new chapter in my career,” Guillard said. “I feel like a new fighter and want to prove I’m one of, if not the best, in the world.”

As pictured above (courtesy of WSOF) Guillard has signed a multi-fight contract for the budding organization, and will look to follow in the tracks of fellow ex-UFC star Rousimar Palhares. ‘Toquinho’ was recently crowned the promotion’s new welterweight champion after submitting Steve Carl in one round at WSOF 9.

One question that remains for Guillard is what kind of competition does WSOF have to offer? Although he had a rocky road in the UFC, MG is a heavy-hitting and elite athlete. A squash match against a jumped up regional fighter would do little more than soil the promotion’s growing reputation. That said, I’m excited to see ‘The Young Assassin’ back in action, and hopefully on form.

A date and opponent is yet to be named for Guillard’s debut.
