Former Strikeforce and UFC veteran Josh “The Punk” Thomson recently made his Bellator debut at Bellator MMA: Dynamite 1 last month, scoring a dominant submission victory over Mike Bronzoulis.

After scoring his first promotional victory, the American Kickboxing Academy staple will headline his first event as he is set to take on Pablo Villaseca in the main event of Bellator 147 which is set for December 4, 2015 in San Jose, California. Bellator broke the news with a press release (Via MMAFighting.com) today (October 22, 2015).

Villaseca, although possibly rather unknown, packs an impressive 10-1 record and is coming off of a submission win over Marcos Cornejo last month. He will look to extend his win streak when he meets the toughest test of his career in Thomson.

“The Punk” on the other hand, despite winning his last bout has actually lose three out of his last four, including three-straight decision losses in the UFC before heading over to Bellator. He too will look to extend his win streak and if he does, there could be big plans for him in the future:

“”Josh was a great champion at Strikeforce and still has a ton left in the gas tank,” said Bellator MMA President Scott Coker. “Should he win this fight (at Bellator 147), there is no guarantee that he will fight for the lightweight title, but it will be taken into consideration.”

At age 37 with 30 professional bouts under his belt, time may be limited for the former Strikeforce champion. Can Thomson make one more title run before he hangs up his gloves for good?
