Farid Basharat Grinds Past Jean Matsumoto to Claim Split-Decision Win – UFC Vegas 113 Highlights
Farid Basharat kept his undefeated record intact, earning a closely contested victory over Jean Matsumoto at UFC Vegas 113.
Basharat drew blood early, catching Matsumoto with an elbow that busted open the Brazilian. After getting lip up for much of the first 90 seconds, Matsumoto looked to clinch up, though Basharat was quick to separate. Of course, that didn’t stop Matsumoto from pursuing a takedown.
He got exactly that right around the four-minute mark of the first round, nearly dumping Basharat on his head in the process. But despite that brief moment of success for Matsumoto, it was Basharat’s boxing that stood out in the opening stanza.

The second round was much more competitive, with Matsumoto effectively mixing up his striking and grappling. Basharat’s boxing continued to look crisp, but the pressure from Matsumoto appeared to sway things back in his favor.
That sent us to the third, where a strong showing from either fighter could determine our winner.

With the fight on the line, Basharat shot in and quickly scored his first takedown of the fight. However, Matsumoto quickly popped back up and separated. Basharat earned another well-timed takedown with 90 seconds to go in the fight, but again, he couldn’t keep Matsumoto’s back on the mat for long.
Upright once again, Matsumoto let his fists fly, but his aggressiveness ultimately led to a third takedown for Basharat, and thus a decision victory in favor of the undefeated Afghan fighter.

Official Result: Farid Basharat def. Jean Matsumoto via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28).
