Overall, Woodley has lost five fights in a row in his boxing and MMA careers. He last earned a win in combat sports against Darren Till at UFC 228. Woodley, including many others, felt that he did enough to beat Paul the first time they fought.

Woodley got his rematch with Paul after Tommy Fury, the younger brother of Tyson Fury, withdrew from the original bout. Woodley had already been getting ready for a fight in January before he got the call from Paul’s team.

Woodley had allegedly been in talks to fight former UFC welterweight title challenger Dan Hardy in the UK before getting the call for the Paul rematch. After their first bout, Woodley got the “I love Jake Paul” tattoo after the two agreed on conditions for a rematch.
