GSP: Chael Sonnen is inside Anderson Silva’s head
UFC Welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre recently came out with some comments about Middleweight champion Anderson Silva‘s heated tirade about Chael Sonnen. In his years as champion, St. Pierre has found himself the target of much smack talk, but has always chose to take the high road and remain quiet. GSP prefers to let his fighting skills do the talking in the Octagon. Silva has often been very similar during his long reign at 185 lbs., but it appears that the incessant trash talk and disrespect from Sonnen has finally gotten the best of Silva’s calm demeanor. GSP believes that his may work to Chael Sonnen‘s advantage, commenting on the subject via Sportsnet.ca:
“He wants to get into Anderson Silva‘s head and he did it. That’s what he wants, because when you fight with emotion, you don’t fight smart. The crowd, they love it. Silva, he’s going to go crazy but he can make a mistake if you do that. It’s a big mistake.”
GSP’s philosophy would be to never lose your head in the Octagon, to never fight with emotion, something that Silva has been proficient at thus far. He does seem more emotionally motivated for this battle than any other previous fight, mostly due to the comments Chael Sonnen has made about Silva, his fellow Brazilians, and even his own family. Still, Anderson Silva is one of the best fighters in MMA history, and will be tough to crack psychologically to the point of breaking. Georges St. Pierre weighed in further:
“You have to go back to the reason he’s a champion. And the reason he’s a champion is because he fights smart, he’s skilled. More skilled than the other guys … He brings the fight where he is the best. He doesn’t go crazy. That’s what Chael Sonnen wants from him.”
St. Pierre thinks that Sonnen wants Silva to become angry and go crazy at UFC 148, thus making a mistake that he can capitalize upon. Is Sonnen inside the great champion Silva’s head? Will The Spider make a mistake based upon emotion? Or will it fuel his already amazing skillset to another highlight-reel victory?
