It seems like a lifetime ago that GSP dominated the UFC welterweight division, but it’s been less than a year since he last fought……

Former UFC welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre was recently spotted with Dana White and Lorenzo Fertita, but the details of their luncheon meet were not clear at that point. “Rush” stepped away from the sport after his UFC 167 “Win” over Johny Hendricks, and “Bigg Rigg” went on to win the vacant strap in a war with Robbie Lawler.

St-Pierre credited personal issues and slack drug testing for his reasons for leaving the belt, and soon after he tore his ACL in training. It looked for a while like we would never see GSP in the cage again, but UFC president Dana White told The Download that “Rush” is making progress:

“They cleared GSP’s knee,” White said. “After surgery like that it still takes about another 30 days before you start to mentally feel right. But he’s in a good spot. His knee just got cleared and he’ll start training again and getting back into shape. He’ll let us know when he’s ready.”

Just seven months after tearing his ACL and GSP is ready to get back to the gym, but will his motivation be there? Injuries can be mentally debilitating for even the most elite athletes, although Anderson Silva is apparently more determined than ever….

Do you think we’ll finally see the end of GSP’s absence from MMA, or is it too late at the age of 35 and coming off a nasty injury and surgery?
