Diego Lopes releases statement on UFC 325 main event defeat
UFC featherweight contender Diego Lopes has released a statement following his UFC 325 defeat to Alexander Volkanovski.
In the main event of UFC 325, Diego Lopes came up short in his attempt to capture the UFC featherweight championship. For the second time, he was outclassed by Alexander Volkanovski in a fight that helped to prove once again why ‘The Great’ is one of the very best featherweights to ever compete in mixed martial arts.
In equal measure, it raised plenty of questions about Diego Lopes’ ability to be a long-term threat at 145 pounds. While he’s able to defeat the majority of others in the top 15, or at least it seems that way, he can’t quite get over the hump of taking on someone like Volkanovski, and there’s no shame in that whatsoever.
In a statement released on Instagram, Diego Lopes had the following to say about his loss.
Diego Lopes releases statement
“Well, there are certain things in life you just have to accept and move on from.
We’ll keep working. It took a lot to get here. And we’re not going to stop. We’ll come back, dust ourselves off, and keep going.
Every fight is different, every fight presents a different situation, especially when you’re facing one of the greatest of all time.
Could we have done more? Certainly, we’ll never be satisfied, because we’ll always have the feeling that we could have done more. But we didn’t fight alone. Just like you, there’s someone on the other side doing their job.
We moved, we kicked, we took him down, we covered him, we try submitted him, we landed hard shots, we took him down again, we defended takedowns, we cut angles. But sometimes, even when you do it all, it’s not enough.
I’m healthy, my family is healthy, my team is healthy. So we’re good.”
