Dana White discusses putting blockbuster events on Fox
In a video interview, UFC President Dana White brings up the topic of how different putting major UFC fights on Fox is than their normal pay-per-view format. A lot of the difference has to do with the allotted time due to commercial breaks,, which are non-existent at normal UFC cards. White has come under some criticism for the first two UFC on Fox events, which featured a 60-second fight in the debut and what many deemed a “boring” card in the second. However, White discards the comments of these critics, responding:
“These fights all looked exciting. You just never know what’s going to happen, on any given night. It’s fighting. The hardest part of this thing is figuring out production. As this thing evolves, it’s going to be more about fighting.” – via Bloodyelbow.com
UFC on Fox 4 was a blockbuster event, with some awesome fights, submissions, and knockouts for the fans. Now UFC on Fox 5 is set to feature the Lightweight title fight, Shogun vs. Gustaffson, and the return of the legendary BJ Penn. It would appear that the UFC is finding its groove on network TV. Like White said, even the best fights on paper can be stalemates or decisions, but the network cards are beginning to show a ton of promise for the future of MMA overall.
