Reigning middleweight king Chris Weidman is finally set to square off with Brazilian legend Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort at UFC 187 on May 23, 2015. The two have been scheduled to fight three times now, with Weidman injuries delaying the bout. However, the bout has also been postponed before due to Belfort’s drug testing issues as well as his issues with the now banned testosterone-replacement-therapy (TRT).

Recently, the controversial Belfort came out and said that he was not happy with the testing leading up to UFC 187. “The Phenom” claimed that he has been tested seven times, while Weidman has not been tested nearly as much. This is quite understandable due to Belfort’s history, but the Brazilian found it unfair.

Speaking with MMAFighting during a recent media scrum, the middleweight champion fired back at Belfort, and gave his thoughts on the testing, saying that he was happy that “The Phenom” is being tested so much, and that he hopes it continues:

“If he passed seven pre-fight tests, that’s great; I hope there’s seven more”

Weidman has been nothing but respectful to Belfort, but he has also been quite open about the drug testing leading up to their long-awaited bout, and you can’t really blame him. With performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) popping up all over the place, the champion only wants an equal playing field on fight night.
