Carlos Condit: Loss To Lawler May Have Been My Last Bout

Condit

When the dust settled after 25 minutes of bloody back and forth action in the main event of last night’s (January 2, 2016) UFC 195 from Las Vegas, many felt as if Carlos Condit had done enough to steal the title away from reigning welterweight king “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler.

When asked if he felt he had done enough to get the victory, “The Natural Born Killer” agreed with the masses:

“I did. It was close, though. And it didn’t go my way tonight, but I left it all in there, fought my ass off, so I’m disappointed but I’m proud of my performance.” Condit said at the post-fight press conference.

In the end, Lawler was given the nod via split-decision. While many have called the decision a robbery, each man laid it all on the line, producing a showdown for the ages.

In the aftermath of such an insane war, it seemed as if a rematch was what most were gunning for. That being said, fans were surprised to hear Condit say we may have the seen the last of him inside of the Octagon:

“It’s not really an emotional thing; I’m not dejected. I don’t know; I have to evaluate, but yeah there’s a possibility that might be my last one.”

While only being 31 years old, “The Natural Born Killer” is a veteran of the sport, leading him to believe that he may not have much left in the tank:

“I’ve been at this for a long time, over 40 professional MMA and kickboxing (fights). I came up short tonight. Tonight was kind of a do-or-die moment for my career, I feel like, and I was all in. If I got that strap, I would keep fighting. If I didn’t – like I didn’t – I’d see if I can continue to do this.”

Despite coming up short, Condit was humble in defeat, noting that he’s been able to live out his dream fighting for a living:

“Win or lose, I’m out here living my dream. I get to fight for a living and compete against the top guys in the world. I dig what I do. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose unfortunately and tonight was not my night.”

It’d be a shame to see such a skillful and exciting fighter hang it up after such an amazing fight.
