Arman Tsarukyan’s Next Fight Could Come as Early as September, Shuts Down Charles Oliveira Fight Rumors
During a recent interview, Arman Tsarukyan had opined that he might run it back with newly minted UFC BMF champion Charles Oliveira in September. After the aforementioned sit-down went viral, multiple media houses also reported the same.
However, the 29-year-old has now clarified that nothing is finalised, including the date and opponent. For now, “Ahalkalakets” will be serving as backup for the lightweight title unification bout between Ilia Topuria and Justin Gaethje on June 14. Tsarukyan has informed the UFC brass that if things don’t go as planned and either Topuria or Gaethje gets injured, he must be informed a week earlier so that he can make weight for this title fight.
Although “Ahalkalakets” is training and staying in shape, he needs at least seven days to make weight. If an injury forces changes to the White House main event during fight week, Tsarukyan would still be willing to step in but would not be able to make the 155-pound lightweight limit on such short notice. Thus, the bout would likely take place at a catchweight and be a non-title bout.
Arman Tsarukyan explains when and who he could be fighting in the coming months
Arman Tsarukyan recently told Ariel Helwani that a rematch with Charles Oliveira could happen soon, but nothing is finalized yet. He can fight in September, October, or even next year, as the decision ultimately rests with the UFC. He said:
“On my YouTube, I said I might fight in September, and everyone posts Arman is officially fighting with [Charles Oliveira]… I said I might fight Oliveira, because you never know, I might fight him too, and people just started posting that I’m fighting with him. No, nothing official like I didn’t say 100% I’m going to fight him, I said I might fight him as well, so.”
Arman Tsarukyan added that if Gaethje manages to dethrone Topuria on June 14, then he believes “The Highlight” will defend his title against him in September or October. However, if the Georgian-Spaniard manages to stop Gaethje, Tsarukyan added that a potential bout with “El Matador” could happen at the end of this year or next year.
“If it’s Topuria, it’s probably like end this year, or if it’s Gaethje, it’s September or maybe October… Because Gaethje fights two to three times a year, but Topuria once a year.”
