Anderson Silva Wants Nick Diaz Rematch In Brazil

Granted a continuance and awaiting his hearing before the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) for failing two UFC 183 drug tests for anabolic steroids drostanolone and androstane, former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva is keeping himself in the public eye in more ways than one.

After beating Nick Diaz by decision at the January 31 event from Las Vegas, both he and the polarizing Stockton native failed drug tests, with Diaz testing positive for his usual marijuana. Silva’s win is thought to be changed to a no contest when he appears before the commission.

Silva was removed from a spot on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) Brazil 4 opposite fellow legend Mauricio “Shogun” Rua for the transgression. The promotion released a preview of Silva receiving the dire news that he had failed the drug screens during the show:

But that isn’t going to hold “The Spider” back. He requested a possible spot on the Taekwondo team in his native Brazil in the 2016 Summer Olympic Games this week, and now, he wants a rematch with Diaz in his home country. Speaking up on Instagram, Silva pleaded with the UFC to grant him that when he returns from his pending suspension:

I believe that there is some things that are unfinished between me & Nick Diaz, I now hope that you, Dana White can accept my request & make a rematch possible in my country, Brazil

The all-time great cited some “unfinished business” with Diaz given the controversial nature of how their first match-up played out:

Still the proud owner of many of the UFC’s most illustrious records, Silva insists that he isn’t ready to hang up the gloves just yet. It’s tough to imagine him actually competing with the top talent of the currently stacked UFC 185-pound division, but he can still put on some ‘fun’ fights for his legions of fans.

Is a rematch with Diaz a bout you’d be interested in seeing again?
